David L. Cook was born on November 11, 1968 in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

 After two years, his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL.

He began his professional career at the age of 5, while singing with his family, The Legendary Christian Singers, The Cook Family

However, his very first actual television appearance was when little David appeared in America's homes on the television show The Electric Company
in November of 1971.
At 3 years of age he was already working with Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno. Mel Brooks & many others!

The Cook Family Singers were originally formed in 1885 by David J Cook and his wife Martha, who hailed from Fort LauderdaleFlorida.

The Cooks became one of the first regular gospel groups to perform on the Grand Ole Opry.

Barely able to reach the peddles and already an accomplished songwriter and performer.

This was but just one of many that David had already written and would be added to the thousands of songs to date, he has composed.

After Davids parents' divorce, the group continued without Donnell, but in 1980,

the group disbanded because of June's health issues.

He continued singing both gospel and secular music leading him to becoming one of the most prolific songwriters in the county

and a multi-platinum recording artist.


In the early 80's David was already a popular teenage heartthrob and was already touring around the world.

David's career and life almost came to a screeching halt in 1984 when at 16 years old was hit head on by a drunk driver.

The accident left him in serious condition.

When most kids graduate from high school, they are usually still trying to figure out what they will be doing for a career.  When David L. Cook graduated he had already been performing professionally all over the world, for more than a decade.

Always wanting to better himself, David has always had a thirst for knowledge and learning.

David L. Cook worked extensively with with Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller & Lucille Ball on the Bob Hope USO Tour.

The "Cook" in Davids name isnt just for music, he is also a rather accomplished chef!

In 1990, David was diagnosed with
dissociative disorder and psychogenic amnesia 
which was brought on by an abusive father.
The doctors had thought he was having a stroke.

On November 11, 2009, Cook was diagnosed with a parathyroid tumor in his neck. Doctors assessed that the tumor was pressing against his vocal cords making it virtually impossible for him to perform.
He was treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Update:  David has had to go back under the knife again and as of 2020 is undergoing radiation treatments for multiple tumors in his throat.

David continues to be a prolific writer and has numerous upcoming projects in various stages of completion.  He is also kept busy with his numerous charitable endeavors, his work with The Artist Music Guild and his various business ventures
The most important person in David's life has and always will be his mother. She was the driving force behind him succeeding not only in music, but also in life.
David also got a lot of his humor from his mom.
'Mama Cook' was a 'Cover Girl' model and one of the most well known voices and faces in Christian music, as part of 
The Cook Family Singers.
She was also the niece of the legendary late Johnny Mercer, an Academy Award Winning American lyricist, songwriter, and singer.
He was also a record label executive who co-founded
Capitol Records.
